We are representing a private equity-backed transmission development company unlocking the enormous economic benefits of transmission expansion across the Western U.S.
Managed by a seasoned executive team of power professionals, our client works with utilities to identify and execute projects that enhance grid reliability, and support economic development by attracting large-scale power consumers.
We are seeking a Vice President of Transmission to lead the technical analysis and modeling for the development of new transmission lines, with a particular focus on system impact studies, economic modeling, and grid optimization. This role will be responsible for validating the reliability upgrades and economic feasibility of the company’s projects, while working closely with utility partners to ensure that our initiatives provide tangible benefits to the grid and ratepayers. The ideal candidate is a hands-on “doer” with deep expertise in transmission modeling and utility engagement.
- Transmission Planning & Modeling:Utilize GridView and PSLF/PSEE software to conduct system impact studies and assess the technical feasibility of new transmission projects.
- Economic & Reliability Analysis:Quantify the economic benefits of new transmission lines, including access to cheaper power, congestion cost reduction, and increased grid stability.
- Project Development:Lead technical analysis and assist in prospecting to support new transmission lines throughout WECC, including assessing the potential for unlocking energy resources.
- Stakeholder Engagement:Work directly with utility executives and transmission modelers, ensuring project buy-in and collaboration on system impact assessments.
- Market Expansion:Focus on WECC-region projects in the near term, with potential to expand into California and Eastern U.S. markets over time.
- Transmission Planning: Represent the company in technical conferences and regional forums to advocate for our projects to be included in utility and regional planning efforts.
Requirements:
- 7-15 years of experience in transmission planning, modeling, or system impact analysis (10+ years preferred for candidates with extensive industry recognition).
- Expertise in GridView or similar transmission modeling software.
- Expertise with PSLF/PSEE power flow software.
- Strong understanding of WECC transmission markets, regulatory requirements, and utility operations.
- Ability to engage credibly with utility executives, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to quantify project economics and validate investment decisions.
- Willingness to travel as needed to engage with stakeholders across the Western U.S.
