Joe Amara Executive Search is seeking a Vice President, Commercial Analytics to lead a high-impact team responsible for market analytics, transmission commercialization, resource adequacy analysis, and customer-facing commercial insights across North American power markets.
This executive will serve as a player-coach leader, balancing team development, strategic direction, and direct analytical execution. The ideal candidate brings deep experience across ISO/RTO markets, exceptional commercial judgment, and the credibility to represent sophisticated market conclusions to utilities, counterparties, and internal leadership.

Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and elevate a growing team of commercial analysts and market modeling professionals
- Provide day-to-day quality control over analytical workstreams, ensuring outputs are technically robust and commercially actionable
- Coach team members through technical hurdles, problem-solving roadblocks, data gaps, and vendor iterations
- Build an accountability-driven, high-performance culture centered on precision, ownership, and execution
- Drive advanced commercial analysis supporting HVDC transmission, interregional grid-to-grid infrastructure, and capacity-focused development opportunities
- Oversee basis analysis, ELCC / loss-of-load expectation modeling, capacity accreditation, and market scenario development
- Translate market structure dynamics, historical bidding behavior, and operational nuance into actionable commercial assumptions
- Support strategic decision-making around customer proposals, regulatory filings, project economics, and transmission commercialization
- Remain highly engaged in managing the analytical work, including reviewing assumptions, pressure-testing model outputs, refining scenarios, solving data quality issues, and improving workplans
- Partner closely with third-party vendors on production cost modeling and other outsourced analytical workflows. Ensure vendor outputs improve through iterative feedback cycles and commercial precision
- Present analytical findings to senior internal stakeholders across development, commercial, legal, and executive leadership
- Convert complex quantitative outputs into clear commercial narratives that influence decision-making
- Support customer-facing presentations, executive materials, and regulatory-quality documentation
Requirements:
- 15–25 years of power market, commercial analytics, or resource adequacy experience. 7+ years of leadership experience.
- Deep knowledge of a major ISO/RTO, with broader multi-market exposure strongly preferred
- Proven leadership of analytical teams in high-growth, high-accountability environments
- Strong command of transmission economics, capacity markets, production cost modeling workflows, and market fundamentals
- Demonstrated ability to manage third-party consultants and modeling vendors
- Exceptional communication skills with executive presence
- Experience within IPPs, utilities, transmission developers, advisory firms, or sophisticated power market consultancies
