Joe Amara Executive Search is actively vetting candidates for a Vice President of Application Engineering to expand the Application Engineering team and develop both its technical and commercial capabilities for a battery storage OEM. Application Engineering is responsible following the BESS system through its definition, EPC and operations life cycle, working closely with the company’s own, and third party, product engineers and providing varying levels of support from Sales through to Operations depending upon the product maturity and customer’s familiarity with storage systems.

  • Pre-sale
    • Works with the salesperson on the sale and with the customer to provide required information (and education) on Battery Energy Storage Systems
    • Identify any gaps in the existing or proposed energy storage solution, and work with the Product Management/Product Engineering teams to fully specify the requirements to resolve the gap.
    • Work with the PMO and Purchasing to fully develop the timeline, costs, and any constraints of the solution and communicate the same to Salesperson and customer.
    • Captures and documents the operating requirements for the project.
  • Post-sale
    • Provides the necessary designs (containers, stacks, DC and AC collection) to the project execution teams for the project to be built.
    • Leads on all use case, energy management system, integration, and networking definitions
    • Writes product scope documents
    • Value engineer the battery energy storage system, and completes job bill of materials to determine the cost, timeline, constraints, risks and ‘planned’ delivery date of the solution to the project execution team.
    • Continues to capture and document operating requirements for the system.
  • Installation and Commissioning
    • Acts as a key resource for knocking down Product/Design/Solution issues that arise.
    • In conjunction with the project execution team finalizes the operating requirements for the system.
    • Provides software and system configurations for the programmable components, based on the operating requirements of the system, to the commissioning teams.
    • Performs any new or non-standard tests and analyses during installation and commissioning, in order to confirm correct operating behavior.
  • Post-Commissioning
    • Work with customer to identify any missing system requirements, or continue working with the customer and Product Management / Engineering and Sales on any new requirements that are to be delivered post-Commissioning.
    • Coordinate with System Operations Teams when requested to:
      • Perform analyses of diagnosis of the performance of the system over time.
      • Provide expert technical support when the System Operations Teams or the customer need to escalate operations issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering
  • Systems design and field operations experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems, Power Systems or PV Solar System projects
  • Knowledge of inverters/rectifiers/NEC
  • Familiarity with SCADA, Modbus and networking applications.
  • Ability to create system designs, single lines and block diagrams using AutoCAD or Visio/Smart Draw
  • Proficient user of MSOffice (including Excel/MS Project) and Adobe applications
