Joe Amara Executive Search is seeking a Sr. Manager, Strategic Finance for a private-equity-backed energy developer focused on firm, dispatchable generation assets. The role requires a hands-on financial professional capable of developing and managing bankable project finance models, supporting corporate finance and FP&A functions, and contributing directly to capital planning and investment strategy.
This position reports to the CEO (until a CFO is appointed) and is ideal for an individual who thrives in a small, entrepreneurial environment and can balance analytical rigor with practical execution. The successful candidate will be a utility player—a detail-oriented finance professional capable of building sophisticated financial frameworks to support growth and financing activities, and able to communicate thoughts and insights clearly to leadership and shareholders.
- Develop and maintain bankable project-finance models for utility-scale generation projects (50 MW+), including detailed capital-cost assumptions and scenario planning (80/20 cases).
- Forecast project-level returns and evaluate capital-market options in collaboration with leadership and financial sponsors.
- Incorporate tax-equity and debt-financing structures into project models, ensuring bankability and compliance with current IRA programs.
- Analyze tax credits and other incentive structures to determine their impact on project economics.
- Support corporate finance and FP&A, including forecasting, reporting, and light accounting support as the organization scales.
- Collaborate with external partners on diligence, financial reporting, and third-party reviews.
- Prepare investment memoranda and financial summaries for executive leadership and shareholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business / Finance / Economics or a related technical field.
- 3–8 years of progressive experience in project finance, investment banking, corporate finance within energy or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven expertise in Excel-based financial modeling, with the ability to independently build and articulate complex project models, incorporating tax equity assumptions.
- Demonstrated understanding of tax-equity and debt structures.
- Experience with firm generating assets, such as natural gas, geothermal, or hydro; or experience with large-scale capital projects such as carbon capture.
- Strong analytical skills with the intellectual curiosity to self-teach and adapt to new asset classes.
- Experience creating and delivering high quality presentation materials for senior leadership.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to distill complexity into actionable insight.
- Entrepreneurial, and comfortable operating in a high-performance, lean organization.
