A newly formed power generation platform backed back by a successful venture capital firm is seeking a highly entrepreneurial and commercially minded Founding Principal to create and lead an asset optimization and monetization strategy of a newly acquired portfolio of biomass generation assets across North America.

The platform is actively acquiring operating merchant and contracted power assets requiring operational oversight, stakeholder coordination, creative monetization strategies, and hands-on leadership. The Founding Principal will play a central role in shaping the platform’s culture, growth trajectory, and monetization strategy.

The ideal candidate is energized by complexity and the opportunity to build something from the ground up alongside an entrepreneurial ownership group with significant growth ambitions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the onboarding of newly acquired operating biomass assets into the portfolio.
  • Coordinate operational, commercial, regulatory, and stakeholder activities across acquired assets.
  • Develop strong working relationships with plant managers, regulators, municipalities, utilities, vendors, and local stakeholders.
  • Identify operational, contractual, permitting, tax, environmental, and organizational risks associated with acquired assets.
  • Ensure smooth ownership transitions while establishing scalable operational processes.
  • Evaluate and implement value-enhancement initiatives including:
    • PPAs and tolling agreements
    • Behind-the-meter opportunities
    • Co-location strategies with data centers or industrial load
    • Battery energy storage integration
    • Solar redevelopment opportunities
    • Tax credit optimization strategies
    • Fuel and operational optimization initiatives
  • Partner closely with technical and operational leadership to maximize portfolio value.
  • Support ongoing acquisition efforts including diligence coordination, transaction execution, and integration planning.
  • Assist in evaluating new acquisition opportunities across biomass and adjacent generation technologies.
  • Help shape long-term platform strategy, capital allocation priorities, and growth initiatives.
  • Create and execute monetization strategies for merchant and contracted generation assets.
  • Serve as a foundational leader within the platform and help establish company culture and operating philosophy.
  • Operate as both a strategic leader and hands-on operator capable of executing day-to-day initiatives.
  • Establish KPIs, reporting frameworks, and organizational processes alongside the ownership group.

Qualifications

  • Experience acquiring, developing, operating, or optimizing power generation assets.
  • Strong understanding of merchant power markets, PPAs, and generation economics.
  • Familiarity with asset-level operational complexity and stakeholder management.
  • Experience navigating complex transactions, distressed assets, or turnaround situations is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and execute creative value creation opportunities.
  • Strong commercial instincts paired with high intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to operate effectively in lean, fast-moving environments.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high tolerance for ambiguity and calculated risk.
  • Hands-on operator willing to “roll up their sleeves.”
