Joe Amara Executive Search is conducting a confidential search on behalf of an established renewable energy platform focused on utility-scale solar, storage, and wind development across the United States.
The organization is entering a critical phase of execution with more than 1 GW of projects currently under construction and another 1.5 GW close to NTP. The company is backed by sophisticated capital and is focused on building a long-term portfolio of operating infrastructure assets.
The Director of Construction will lead construction management and execution activities across a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects. The individual will oversee internal and external construction management resources while establishing scalable systems, processes, and controls across the organization.
This is both a strategic and hands-on leadership role. The successful candidate must be capable of operating at the executive level while also stepping directly into active project issues involving EPC management, schedule recovery, contractor disputes, change orders, project controls, and field execution.
- Lead construction execution across utility-scale solar, battery storage, and wind projects throughout the United States
- Create a scalable and repeatable construction management framework by establishing standardized processes for project controls, change order management, scheduling, reporting, risk mitigation, and cross-functional communication.
- Oversee project construction activities from EPC contracting and pre-construction through commissioning and commercial operation
- Manage internal the construction team, third-party project managers and site teams
- Lead contractor and EPC management efforts, including accountability for schedule, cost, quality, safety, and performance
- Manage complex change order negotiations, contractor disputes, and commercial resolution strategies
- Establish stronger project controls processes related to schedule management, forecasting, risk management, and reporting
- Support EPC negotiations, scope alignment, pricing evaluation, and NTP execution activities
- Partner closely with development, engineering, finance, capital markets, and executive leadership teams
- Provide strategic construction reporting and communication to senior leadership and investors
- Mentor and develop construction managers and project management personnel across the organization
- Support the continued build-out and maturation of the company’s construction management function
Qualifications
- 10-15 years of utility-scale renewable energy construction experience; including wind and solar
- Strong background managing EPC contractors and complex construction execution environments
- Battery storage construction experience is beneficial but not required
- Proven success managing change orders, contractor negotiations, and construction disputes
- Strong understanding of EPC agreements, project controls, construction scheduling, and risk management
- Experience overseeing multiple concurrent projects across geographically dispersed regions
- Ability to operate effectively in both strategic leadership and hands-on project execution capacities
- Strong executive presence and communication skills with the ability to interface with investors, executives, contractors, and project stakeholders
- Experience helping build or professionalize construction organizations, systems, or processes is strongly preferred
