We are seeking a Head of Business Development for a leading renewable energy solutions provider specializing in operations and maintenance (O&M) for utility-scale wind and solar assets, as well as construction services such as repowering. The company is privately held, with an expanding footprint across North America.
The Head of Business Development will be a dynamic, results-oriented leader responsible for driving the company’s growth in the renewable energy market. This individual will play a critical role in crafting and executing a comprehensive go-to-market strategy, targeting new business opportunities, and deepening relationships with existing clients. The role requires a hands-on approach, combining strategic vision with tactical execution.
Key Responsibilities
Go-to-Market Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and intelligent business development strategy.
- Identify target markets and opportunities, including the repowering of utility-scale assets.
- Analyze market competitiveness and establish the company’s differentiation.
Client Acquisition & Relationship Management:
- Identify and establish relationships with potential high-value clients, particularly within the O&M sector for wind, solar and BESS.
- Expand the company’s client base while diversifying its revenue streams.
- Enhance partnerships with existing clients, balancing operational efficiency with new business development.
Team Leadership:
- Build and manage a lean but effective business development team
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal and operational departments, to streamline processes and improve response times to client needs.
Contract Management:
- Review and negotiate contracts, ensuring alignment with company goals and risk tolerance.
- Possess deep familiarity with O&M agreements and industry-specific terms and payment structures.
Collaboration with Leadership:
- Work closely with senior leadership, including the Chairman of the Board and other key stakeholders, to align business development goals with overall company objectives and enhance business predictability and forecasting.
- Partner with operations team to proactively manage client relationship through project and O&M execution to ensure profitability and risk mitigation
Requirements:
Travel:
- Travel as required to meet with clients and teams across the country.
Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in business development or sales leadership roles within the renewable energy, utility-scale wind/solar or battery storage industries.
Skills:
- Proven ability to create and execute strategic go-to-market plans.
- Strong track record of client acquisition and revenue growth.
- Deep understanding of O&M contracts for wind and solar.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills and a well-established professional network.
Leadership:
Hands-on leader who can roll up their sleeves and directly drive business development efforts.
