Associate Project Developer, Solar

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Project Development, the Associate Project Developer will lead and oversee the full development of solar and battery storage power projects. Projects are either sourced through acquisition or greenfield developed in specific US markets. Responsibilities include all key development activities ranging from land acquisition and permitting to conceptual design, planning, securing interconnection and commercial offtake opportunities in collaboration with both internal and external team resources. The Project Developer assures compliance with environmental, construction and other permit requirements for all greenfield projects and acquisition prospects by working with appropriate market standards, evaluating risks, and developing appropriate mitigation actions. Additionally, the Project Developer will focus to secure and navigate new growth opportunities through both greenfield and acquisition.

• Site selection, landowner outreach, stakeholder coordination
• Due-diligence review of prospective solar development asset acquisitions
• Lead local state, federal and regional permitting of wind and solar projects
• Create project development plans to meet project objectives
• Accountability for implementing these plans to manage projects to time, quality and budget.
• Provide strategic support to M&A team and aid decision making through project permitting, development and due diligence as required
• Create and maintain effective communication and supportive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and especially with project landowners to ensure that project-specific requirements are effectively negotiated and secured
• Develop and implement the strategy for securing project grid interconnection and transmission
• Work with Engineering teams to ensure wind and solar regimes are in place to provide investment grade resource data
• Identify value-added and profitability influencers through development, regulatory and permitting analysis to improve project financing
• Ensure project-specific financial assessments capture all corresponding development, permitting and operational cost assumptions to support accurate financial modelling

Requirements:

• University degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines (i.e. engineering, environmental, MBA, urban planning)
• Strong and proven track record of successful development of US wind or solar projects in various markets
• Display a strong drive to deliver results, persistent in overcoming obstacles and eager to take responsibility for making things happen in a complex development landscape
• Strong people management skills with ability to work in teams and applying integrative skills
• Experience in managing remote and indirect internal and external workforces, including consultants and contractors
• Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
• Travel 20% – 30%
